The challenge

Migrating a large legacy website is more than moving files. The Hanoi Department of Tourism’s information portal contained approximately 300 GB of legacy data, making recovery, content migration, and long-term maintenance significant challenges.

We needed to recover the original website content and media from backup files, preserve the existing URL structure to protect established SEO value, and rebuild the platform into a leaner, easier-to-manage WordPress website without losing essential information.

02

Our approach

We approached the project as a data recovery and platform modernization effort, turning a large legacy website into a streamlined WordPress content management system.

Legacy data recovery

We rebuilt the server environment using the available backup files and recovered the original website’s content and media assets. This allowed us to retrieve valuable information from the legacy system and prepare it for migration.

Automated content migration

We developed a custom migration tool to convert legacy posts into WordPress’s native data structure, including their associated media files. This automated approach made it possible to process a large volume of content more consistently and efficiently.

Data cleanup and optimization

We removed duplicate files and unnecessary data, reducing the storage footprint while retaining the content and assets required by the website. We then optimized the WordPress implementation for easier content management, improved performance, and maintainability.

SEO-preserving deployment

We maintained the original URL structure throughout the migration to preserve existing links and support SEO continuity. Before launch, we validated the migrated content and checked the website’s performance and accessibility.
03

The outcome

We transformed a 300 GB legacy website into a significantly leaner WordPress platform, preserving its established URL structure while making the content easier to manage and the website faster to access.
