The development of science and technology has also raised the question of how to provide users with the best digital experiences. Furthermore, with the ubiquity of mobile devices as it is today, mobile app developers must focus more on the future direction of the mobile industry. Therefore, mastering technology and developing solutions for the next generation of mobile devices also predicts a very fierce battle.

The software company Progress recently released the results of the “State of the Mobile Development” survey to highlight some new trends around the world in the field of mobile app development. The survey collected 3,000 questionnaires, most of which were from mobile developers (49%). There were also executives (14%), architects (14%), IT specialists (8%), and Chief Technology Officers (6%).

One noteworthy and surprising result is that up to 57% of mobile device developers have never built a mobile app before. Meanwhile, on average, 47% of mobile device developers only create one web-based mobile app per year.

The main reason why mobile app developers do not invest time and money to create a mobile app is the constant development of technology. At the same time, new technologies and exciting projects are looking for their destinations, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), wearable devices, and internet-connected vehicles.

According to Karen Tegan Padir of Progress, “The software developer community needs to understand the tools and processes to drive the sustainable development of mobile apps.”

Another research result from Telerik shows that 44% of mobile app developers consider user experience to be the most important factor when building and developing mobile apps.

It is clear that mobile app developers feel quite pressured when introducing their apps to the market – 19% of them believe that time constraints are the main reason for the unsustainable development of mobile apps.

The research also shows that developers prefer to build multi-platform apps rather than websites to ensure the best performance and display of the app across multiple platforms. Mobile app developers call this software development approach “hybrid.” 33% of developers use this method, followed by 25% using native apps and 19% using web apps.

Android has won the smartphone market, and according to new market forecasts, Google’s operating system will reach an 81.1% market share by 2019. The survey shows that mobile app developers are building apps for the Android operating system at 76%, iOS at 63%, and Windows Phone at 40%.

83% of mobile app developers build on both iOS and Android platforms. This shows that mobile app developers are all attracted by the large market share developed on the Google platform. 36% of the mobile app developers surveyed said that developing multi-platform apps is a necessary element of the mobile app development ecosystem.

Overall, this report provides the reasons and potential benefits of building the apps that the mobile industry is aiming for, as well as how developers are introducing their apps to new markets. The report also emphasizes that mobile app developers are waiting to benefit even more from new technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) or wearable devices.
